Telecast  Date:   March 4,  1981

SCOTT  BAIO reunited  with  John  Herzfeld,  the  EMMY winning  director  of  Stoned,  for  this  next  Afterschool  Special  television  drama  chronicling  the  struggles  of   handicapped  young  people.

SCOTT portrayed  Johnny  Jay,  a  rebellious  wheelchair-bound  streetsmart  delinquent  who  is  ultimately  persuaded  by  Sue  Jenkins  ( Dee  Wallace ),  a  compassionate  high  school  teacher,  to  befriend  Samantha  Anderson  ( Toni  Kalem ),  an  embittered  lame  girl  who  had  been  the  recent  victim  of  a   tragic  horse  riding  accident.

Their  inspirational  story  reaches  an  exhilarating  climax  as  the  two  teenagers  work  hard  to  lobby  for  the  addition  of  special  bathroom  facilities  within  their  school.  Both  of  them  also  participate  in  an  annual  six-mile  race  which  traditionally  does  not  accommodate  the  handicapped.

Run  Don’t  Walk is  based  on  the  novel  by  author  Harriet  May  Savitz,  whose  research  and  activism  on  behalf  of  wheelchair  athletes,  literally  helped  to  open  numerous  doors  for  them.
