During  the  third  season  of  this  critically  acclaimed  and  highly  regarded  cult         TV  sitcom,  SCOTT  BAIO  was  privileged  to  make  an  unforgettable                  guest  appearance  as  handsome  double-talking  lawyer  Bob  Loblaw  in       4  memorable  episodes :  “Forget  Me  Now”,  “Notapusy”,  “Mr.  F”  and  “Making  A  Stand”.

However,  it  isn’t  really  surprising  at  all  that  Scott  managed  to  fit  perfectly         inside  the  nonsensical  kingdom  of  the  wildly  absurd  Bluth  clan  since  “ARRESTED  DEVELOPMENT”  strangely  feels  and  sounds  quite                    a  whole  lot  like  a  twisted,  perverse  and  warped  comic  nightmare  version  of  “CHARLES-IN-CHARGE” :

1.  Charles  ( Scott  Baio )  was  employed  by  a  contemporary  family  to  help  babysit  and  take  care  of  their  mischievous  kids.

Michael  Bluth  ( Jason  Bateman )  does  almost  the  very  same  thing  for            his  eccentric  family,  although  he  needs  to  keep  a  sharp  eye  on  his  zany          adult  relatives  a  lot  more  than  simply  watch  over  his  less  troublesome            son  and  niece.

2.  Michael  Bluth’s  closest  relationship  is  with  his  teenage  offspring                George  Michael  ( Michael  Cera ),  an  innocent  man-child.

Charles’s  closest  relationship  was  with  his  best  friend  Buddy  Lembeck            ( Willie  Aames ),  an  idiotic  childish  man.

3.  During  his  show’s  first  season,  Charles  was  in  charge  of                                the  3  Pembroke  children :  older  brother  Douglas  ( Jonathan  Ward ),  youngest  brother  Jason  ( Michael  Pearlman )  and  their  sister  Lila  ( April  Lerman ).

gobbusterlindsay1

In  the  Bluth  family,  Michael  has  3  siblings  to  worry  about :  older  brother           Gob  ( Will  Arnett ),  youngest  brother  Buster  ( Tony  Hale )  and  their  sister  Lindsay  ( Portia  de  Rossi ).

4.  Michael  Bluth’s  sister  Lindsay  marries  Tobias  Funke  ( David  Cross )  and  gives  birth  to  their  daughter  Maeby  ( Alia  Shawkat ),  creating  a  secondary  family  unit  of  1  male  and  2  females  within  the  larger  Bluth  tribe.

During  his  show’s  later  seasons,  Charles  found  himself  in  charge  of                 the  3  Powell  children :  Jamie  ( Nicole  Eggert ),  Sarah  ( Josie  Davis )           and  Adam  ( Alexander  Polinsky ).  Also  1  male  and  2  females.

5.  During  his  show’s  first  season,  Charles  worked  for  busy  parents               Stan  and  Jill  Pembroke  ( James  Widdoes  and  Julie  Cobb ).

But  the  actress  playing  the  mother  was  unexpectedly  replaced  by  someone  else  ( Lisa  Donovan )  in  the  premiere  episode  of  the  second  season.  Thus,  the  single  role  of  Jill  Pembroke  was  actually  played  by  two  different  women.  There  were  2  Jills.

Michael  Bluth’s  mother  is  Lucille  ( Jessica  Walter ).  She  has  to  compete  for  the  love  and  loyalty  of  her  two  other  sons  Gob  and  Buster  against  her  rival  who  is  also  named  Lucille  ( Liza  Minnelli ).  There  are  2  Lucilles.

6.  Michael  Bluth’s  father  is  George  Sr.  ( Jeffrey  Tambor ).  The  actor  portraying  him  also  enacts  the  dual  role  of  bewildered  Uncle  Oscar                who  got  tricked  into  replacing  his  escaped  fugitive  twin  brother  in  prison.

During  his  show’s  later  seasons,  Charles  was  often  advised  by  his  mother  Lillian  ( Ellen  Travolta ).  The  actress  portraying  her  also  enacted                      the  dual  role  of  flamboyant  madcap  socialite  Aunt  Vanessa.

Aunt  Vanessa  seems  to  have  been  partly  inspired  by  another  eponymously  named  guest  character  from  Scott  Baio’s  previously  short-lived  sitcom          “JOANIE  LOVES  CHACHI”.  This  first  Vanessa  was  a  bewitching  college  acquaintance  of  Louisa,  Chachi’s  mom,  who  tried  to  seduce  him  in  exchange  for  a  lucrative  recording  deal.  She  was  portrayed  by  none  other  than              the  actress  currently  playing  sly  Bluth  family  matriarch  Lucille…….          Jessica  Walter.

There  were  2  Vanessas.

7.  Charles’s  mother  Lillian  temporarily  adopted  his  juvenile  delinquent  younger  cousin  Anthony  ( Justin  Whalin ).

Michael  Bluth’s  mother  Lucille  temporarily  adopts  a  mysterious  Korean  orphan  named  Annyong  ( Justin Lee ).

8.  The  Bluth  family’s  corrupt  and  crumbling  vast  business  empire  has                    it’s  founding  origins  in  a  small  eatery  known  as  The  Yellow  Banana  Stand.

Charles  and  his  friends  spent  much  of  their  leisure  time  hanging  around             his  mother  Lillian’s  picturesque  retro  family  diner  called  The  Yesterday  Cafe.

9.  Charles  once  suffered  temporary  amnesia  due  to  a  jarring  head          injury,  which  motivated  his  best  friend,  his  mother  and  his  employer  family        to  find  various  ways  of  curing  his  memory  loss  so  that  he  may  return  to          his  normal  self.
